Golf Tips - Good Gear and Sportsmanship

By: Trevor Mulholland

If you are just getting into the sport of golf, you have probably heard thousands of golf tips from well-meaning golfers. However, what many golfers fail to realize is that many of the golf tips that work well for one golfer, simply do not work well for another. Here are some golf tips that work well for everyone.

As a beginner, do not rush out and buy a set of high priced clubs. Buy a set of used clubs, or better yet rent your clubs. Take a little time to see if you really enjoy the game of golf, and if you will stick to it first. The used or rented clubs wont be the top of the line, but they will get you through several games of golf to see if you are going to stick with it. This is also a good opportunity to start researching exactly what clubs you need when you are ready to buy a new set.

Golf is fun, but the sport should not be taken lightly. It is a sport it isnt just a bunch of retired men knocking a ball around. It takes a great deal of skill and technique to master the game. The pros you see on television make it look quite simple but it isnt. The concepts you will learn from more experienced golfers will sound easy and look easy in theory, but in practice, they are quite difficult. The sooner you realize this, the faster you will start to improve your game.

While golf does require skill and technique, it is still meant to be enjoyed and the experience should be relaxing. If you get angry over bad shots or you find that you are not enjoying the game, you should back up and re-evaluate your reasons for playing the game. Try to look at things from a new perspective. It is a game that tests your skill but it should not test your patience!

Choose your golf aids carefully. A great deal of money can be wasted on aids, courses, and videos that turn out to not be any help at all. When possible, buy used aids, courses, and videos. Save your golfing money for more important things like clubs, balls, and tees! Used clubs arent very good used training equipment usually works quite well.

Golf is great exercise. Riding in a golf cart defeats that purpose though. Walk, dont ride! Save the cart for the days when you really are too old to walk a short distance take advantage of the exercise that you will get by walking from one tee to the next, and take the time to actually enjoy the walk!

Alcohol is often served at the clubhouse but you should wait until you finish your round of golf before consuming any. First, the alcohol will greatly alter your game. Second, alcohol is a dehydrating substance, and this isnt safe in the hot sun. Carry water with you during your game, and make sure you drink plenty of it!

Becoming good at the game takes a lot of practice. Use your practice sessions to learn what mistakes you are making, and work to correct them. Dont just keep making the same mistakes over and over, thinking that it doesnt matter, or that it is too hard to learn! If youre going to play, play to win!

Use training aids, and if possible, video tape yourself playing a round of golf, making sure that you get close up shots of you teeing off, close up shots of the club hitting the ball on the tee-off, and even shots of you putting. Have a friend run the camera for you for best results, and review the tape in slow motion to see what needs the most work.

The most important golf tips you will ever receive are the ones that focus on good sportsmanship. Never make fun of other players. Some people do look funny playing golf but those funny looking people can probably beat every aspect of your game, and they will have the last laugh. Be respectful of your fellow golfers, and listen closely to the advice of the seasoned players.

Cheap Golf Irons

More and more manufacturers are offering hybrids in women's golf club sets. These clubs take the place of the longer irons (3, 4, 5 irons). They are easier to hit the ball and allow for more mis-hits so that your ball gets airborne with more accuracy.

Looking to improve your golf swing? The majority of amateur golfers are. Possibly you suffer from a golf slice, or hook. Maybe you've bought every golf swing trainer you could get your hands on and still aren't seeing the improvement you'd hoped for. If any of this sounds like you then you're the person this site is for. I was a struggling golfer, trying to find the perfect golf swing. I'd had swing analysis done, met with golf instructors, and even bought the latest greatest golf software. None of which seemed to be lowering my handicap the way I wanted it to. The fact of the matter is, once I finally found the one item that helped me it turned out I was going about my swing improvement all wrong.

When buying used golf clubs face wear is what you're looking for. Clubs that have been used for a long time might have a shiny worn spot right in the center. You don't want these because the clubface won't hold the ball as well. Make sure the grooves still have well defined edges. Stay away from clubs that show indentations in the clubface. These can affect the ball flight.

I cant tell you how many people come to my lesson tee and say, If I could just get rid of my baseball swing, then all my problems would be solved! My initial thought is always: I wish you had a baseball swing, because it would help you play better golf.

The Secret To A Better Golf Game

By Mike Pedersen, CPT

A better golf game is achievable by any golfer. It doesn't matter what your age is, how good a player you are or how long you've been playing. But the key to a better golf game may not be what you think.

The standard approach to a better golf game is taking lessons; buying more equipment; and hitting hundreds of golf balls at the range.

Although, the above approach is not altogether incorrectthere is one crucial missing element. That element is your BODY! You swing those fancy clubs; you hit all those balls at the range; and you physically participate in the aspect of taking lessons.

The common denominator is your body. Do you agree? If you dont, Id like to hear youre explanation of why not.

If you are following me, and think Im remotely correct, then why wouldnt you work on your body to play a better golf game?

Im constantly hearing golfers say theyve taken lessons, bought new equipment and pounded hundreds of balls but still have not seen improvement.

Thats the telltale!

That leaves just one thingYOU.

Dont get me wrongI firmly believe you need an understanding of golf swing technique, and golf equipment can help. But pounding balls just for the sake of doing it wont help you play a better golf game.

Now picture this.

You do a few simple stretches and golf exercises daily and go out to play. You now realize you can make a bigger backswing with less tension; you have more clubhead speed enabling you to hit longer drives; and you are not worn out on the back nine.

Isnt that worth the minimal investment in your time?

To play a better golf gameyouve got to take a different approach than what you are currently doing. One that gets to the root of the problem. The one thats causing those mishits and inconsistencies.

You will be amazed at your outcome if you take this approach. You will finally play a better golf game.

Although they might look somewhat similar, the mechanics of hitting a bunker shot are different than those used to play a chip shot from grass. In the sand, its actually advantageous to allow the clubhead to pass your hands past impact. This move encourages a higher, softer shot by increasing the clubhead speed and amount of spin that can be created. Due to the unstable nature of sand, think of these shots as more handsy than most others in golf.

On the back swing you have a little natural weight shift. Consequently, you have a little natural head move. This is perfectly O.K. This is the same move that you would make if you were to throw a rock into a lake. You would never think of anything other than the rock and the lake, but your weight and head would shift automatically. If you throw it 2 feet, you don't have any movement. But if you throw it 200 feet, there will be a more noticeable move.

You Need Golf Swing Drills

By Patrick L. Jensen

How many golf swing drills are you doing? If you are like most weekend golfers it might not be enough to see a difference in your game. Here are a few golf swing drills that may help you improve your game.

Golf Swing Drill - Leg Drill

One mistake that golfers tend to make is trying to swing to hard with their upper body. While an upper body swing is important, you are loosing much of your power in your golf swing if you are not utilizing your legs. Your legs are a very important part of your swing and should not be forgotten. Once, you start to incorporate your upper and lower body into your swings, you will certainly see a dramatic improvement.

Try this golf swing drill the next time you are warming up for your next round. Start with your legs together and begin to go into your backswing. Once you are at the height of your backswing stop. Take a step powerful step forward and swing with your hips. Let your arms and the club swing through on the proper swing path with minimal effort from the top half of your body. You should do this as many times as you think necessary before your rounds of golf. Eventually, your body will remember this motion and you will begin to use your legs more and more in your swing. Golf swing drills for your legs are excellent.

Golf Swing Drill - Short Game

Today, everyone seems to be obsessed with the long ball. Becoming a long golfer is great but there is more to a good golfers game than hitting the long ball. So while your practicing, don't forget about your short game. Ultimately, it's your short game that is going to take the most strokes of your game. Even the longest of the big boys know that they have to have some sort of a short game to compete.

So, the next time you go to the driving range, keep that driver in the bag. Pull out one of your shorter clubs and hit one hundred balls at two of the shortest flag sticks. You can buy another bucket to practice getting longer (after all it is a driving range) but concentrating on your short game will pay off big in the end.

Are you doing enough golf swing drills to lower your score? Many golfers neglect these simple golf swing drills and their games are suffering because of it. If you are looking for more power and distance off of the tee, chances are you may be able to find some more power in your legs. But always remember, you can be as long as the pros but if you don't have a half way decent short game, your score is never going to be where you want it to be. Try the above golf swing drills and you should begin to see a dramatic difference in your game in no time.

Learn More About Golf Swing

The trajectory of a golf ball and the distance it travels depends on its initial trajectory, speed and spin, as well as what it's moving through (air). The air is not always the same. It varies in temperature, pressure, humidity and density. If there were no air whatsoever, the golf ball would not travel far. Likewise, if a ball is hit in air with no spin, it will not travel far.

To keep the clubface in the correct position throughout the swing, the left wrist must move in a flat position. What I mean by flat is in relation to the back of the left forearm, and the back of the left hand for right-handed players with the opposite for the left-handed players. To deviate from this position will roll the clubface out of position.

Discover How Golfers Use This Simple Golf Swing eBook And Audio Course As Their Secret Training Tool In Their Quest For Lower Scores.

Winning Golf Resort Vacations

By: Winifred Holstone

Sun, sand, blue skies . . . and golf? If this sounds like your idea of paradise, then a golf resort vacation could be the ideal retreat you've been looking for.

Golf is a universal sport, and so there are wonderful golf courses virtually anywhere you're willing to travel. Here are just a few of the world's favorite golf resort destinations:

* Hawaiian Islands

Hawaii's many golf resorts offer the ultimate sports vacation. There are six glorious islands, each offering resorts that have been created just for golfers. Every day is the perfect day to golf in Hawaii, so it's an ideal year-round destination for avid golfers. No wonder so many of the world's leading golf course architects and athletes make the trip to experience the pinnacle of golf resorts. Kauai, Oahu, and Maui are popular for golf resorts that dreams are made of.

Hawaii's Maui island is home to some of the world's most impressive golf resorts. These little pieces of paradise offer sweeping views of the Maui coastline and glimpses of neighboring Lanai and Molokai islands. Humpback whales can be seen swimming along the coastline in winter, presenting Hawaiian golfers with yet another amazing site to add to the greens. A Maui golf resort is a true golfer's paradise, with spectacular scenic views of mountains and oceans, challenging golf courses and sloping terrains.

Given the extreme beauty and excitement of a Hawaiian golf resort vacation, it can be difficult to book a tee time. Despite the fact that these resorts can be more expensive, they are not always able to accommodate all of the golfers wishing to spend time on the greens.

* California

No "World's Best Golf Resorts" list is complete without naming some of the destinations found in Southern California. Home to many of the golf's most historic events, California golf resorts are among the best in the world, often chosen for International tournaments.

California offers a combination of natural beauty, perfect climate and genuine elegance, making it the perfect choice for business and for pleasure. Among the state's many celebrated places to play are the Double Tree Golf Resort, Pala Mesa Golf Resort and Mount Woodson. Whether you tee off with a view of the ocean, or a glimpse of those majestic mountains, California can be a truly remarkable place to spend your golf vacation.

* Golf Resorts in Michigan

The state of Michigan has earned the reputation as "America's Summer Golf Capital". There are 1000 golf resorts and courses, offering first-rate services and placing Michigan in 12th place on Golf Digest's list of best golf destinations in the world. In fact, four of America's Top 75 golf courses are located in Michigan. Clear waters, breathtaking vistas and lush fairways hook first-time visitors, and keep them coming back time and again.

* Golf Resorts in Florida

You can golf till you drop in Florida, because this state has more golf courses and golf resorts than you could begin to imagine. Of course, the golf courses and resorts in Florida offer first-rate facilities and amenities, from their pro golf shops and putting greens to the driving ranges, bars and restaurants.

Over the years, Florida has played host to many golf tournaments, including the international PGA and LPGA tours. In Florida, golf is nothing short of outstanding. With excellent accommodations and the best in dining, it's everything that a golfer could want in a golf resort vacation.

* Myrtle Beach Golf Resorts

Myrtle Beach is known as the "World's Golfing Capital", and home to first-rate golf resorts. With so many golf courses situated in and around Myrtle Beach, it would be difficult to find another place in the world that matches the sheer density of options.

* Golf Resorts in Ireland

You can search the world over, but nothing beats Ireland for real excitement, rugged challenges, excellent vistas and world-class golfing amenities. While it may not fit the typical "resort destination" bill, a golf vacation in Ireland is an experience that no golfer should live without.

If golfing is your passion, then consider a golf resort for your next getaway. With any luck, your spouse loves the sport as much as you do, and you can share the fun and excitement of your dream vacation.

Hints On Golf Swing Aids

Used Golf Irons

Let's say your home course has bunkers with soft, fluffy sand. You don't want your club digging down into that loose sand, so you need a sand wedge with a higher bounce angle to lessen the digging. Conversely, bunkers with heavy, compacted sand do require more digging to pull off a good sand shot, so you need less bounce to allow the leading edge of the club to do that digging.

Many swing faults occur from an improper setup. This can cause unnecessary adjustments during the swing. Taking care to position the ball, feet, hips and shoulders properly ensures building a good swing foundation. Testing has shown golfers with open stances show no more tendency to slice than golfers with closed stances. The open stance may give the golfers a little more opportunity to slice, because it allows a little more freedom in the downswing and follow-though. The square stance is used by most successful golfers. Beginners should start with a square stance. As you advance, you can experiment with the advantages of other stances. Avoid extreme stances. Experiment to find the stance that works best for you. Take care to set up consistently on all normal shots.
...PGA of America

This is a very common problem for golfers and it's an awkward adjustment. The solution is very simple, however. Instead of setting your driver behind the ball such that the center of the face is aligned with the ball, move backwards a couple of inches (towards your back) such that the toe of your driver is aligned with the ball. Now do the test again. Stretch out your arms and pick the club up to the ball's height. Is the ball aligned with the center of the driver face? If so, put the club back down and fire! If not, keep moving back until it is.
...PGA Tour

You cant fire a gun unless you pull the trigger, right? A similar concept also applies to the golf swing, which also usually requires a trigger move to get the body moving. Now, not everyone has a trigger, some manage to swing well from a static position to a dynamic position. But for the rest of us who often find confusion when it comes to where to start the golf swing, a trigger move can help you start swinging in a fluid and consistent manner.

Golf Grip Technique: This point is often overlooked by most amateur and weekend golfers, yet your golf grip is the steering wheel of the golf swing. It's the only point of contact our body makes with the club. There are three optional grips you can use. The overlapping, interlocking, and baseball grip. You're best to choose either the overlapping or interlocking grip. We'll leave the description of these three grips to another article, on golf grip tips if you're not familiar with these grips then take a moment to read it.

Notice how my upper left arm and chest are connected. It's this connection that initiates the backswing and encourages the club to be moved by the pivot of the body and not the hands and arms moving independently. In addition to the left arm and chest, movement of the shoulders and back should also contribute to the finish of a powerfully coiled backswing. Don't ever begin your backswing by lifting your arms or rolling your wrists by themselves.

An Effective Golf Swing Exercise

By Mike Pedersen

There are many types of effective golf swing exercises. Golf swing exercise is very important because the golf swing is at the very heart of the golf game.

It is actually impossible to play a good game of golf without being able to execute an effective golf swing.

The other reason why golf swing exercise is so important is in the fact that a golf swing by its very nature is a very unnatural and awkward movement of the body and muscles.

It therefore stands to reason that the body will usually resist the golf swing action and this is why it appears to be so difficult to master.

However when you use golf swing exercises to strengthen and condition the relevant muscles, the golf swing becomes less awkward to the body.

Let us now take a closer look at the movements involved in a golf swing so that we come up with the most effective golf swing exercise that will impact most dramatically on the quality of your game.

The golf swing is actually a turn back and turn through. Most of the movement is pure rotation. This means doing golf swing exercises like a seated twist holding a dumbbell straight out in front of you is a very effective exercise in strengthening and conditioning the muscles used in the golf swing.

Be careful not to use very heavy weights in this golf swing exercise. 3-5 pound dumb bells are ideal. Remember that a golf club is not heavy; in fact it weights less than a pound.

Repeat this golf swing exercise as many times as you can within a 30-minute session without straining yourself. Do remember to warm up before you begin the session and also to warm down when you are through.

Warming up ensures that you do not start with your muscles cold. Stretches involving the muscles that you are going to use can also be extremely useful before you go into this golf swing exercise.

The shove type: The word shove is misleading. An actual shove is illegal. It's only a feel. What gives this shove feel is the stroke is made with a very short backswing and a long followthrough. The advantage of this type of stroke is the shorter the backswing, the less chance of error.

When using a wood, an easy, unforced, sweeping motion is used. You are trying to hit behind the middle of the golf ball and the club sweeps over the top of the grass as you come through the ball. Irons need a more upright/ downward swing. You are trying to hit down toward the middle-bottom of the golf ball and the club will continue slightly into the ground as you follow through. NOTE: You must hit the ball first, then let the club follow through as it should. If you are hitting the ground first, adjust your position to the ball at address.

One more golf tip that could help you is that the golf clubs that must be the main content of your bag must suit your skill level. Since various skill levels need various golf clubs, it won't be wise to just use or bring a golf club that is just lying around. And, don't ever forget about the maximum golfclub load your bag is allowed to hold. You can only bring 14 golf clubs in your bag. No more. No less. Going The Distance With Golf Instructions

by Edwin Shackleford

Like any sports, golf entails some fundamental instructions on rules, method, customs, and equipment. These golf instructions, aside from practices, are important in order to become an expert golfer.

Hence, in the United States, any golfer can gain the same knowledge that most professional golfers have obtained by enrolling in golf schools or training centers that are duly licensed by the U.S. Golf Teachers Federation or the Professional Golfers Association.

For those who would like to know more about golf instructions, here is a list of some facts that they can use in gaining more information about golf and golf instructions:

1. Golf Instructions started in the 'medieval era'.

As early as the 1350s, golf instructions had already dominated the society. Back then, golfers were already incorporating the basic concept of golf instructions by letting each group of golfers to strike the next unbroken shot.

2. Expensive state of golf instructions

Before the gutta percha ball was created, golf instructions were very costly then. It was even considered as a very expensive set of abilities wherein only a few people from Edinburgh could play the game.

3. 'Show-and-tell' type of golf instruction

It was in 1848 when the 'show-and-tell' type of golf instructions was first introduced. It was also during this year that the 'guttie' ball was invented.

Because of these, golf eventually became an affordable sport. It also became an easy export item wherein golf was gradually introduced to the rest of the world.

4. First golf instructional book

It was in 1857 that the first golf instructional book was published. The book, entitled 'A Keen Hand', written by H.B. Farnie was all about golf instructions on techniques and strategies in playing golf.

5. The important part of golf instructions

In golf instructions, the most essential things that a golfer must learn are alignment, proper posture, golf swing, and grip. These things are the primary concern of the golf instructions because these are vital to every golf players shot in the game.

6. Golf instructions and shots

Through golf instructions, every golfer wannabe is able to learn the different traditional shots like fairway shots, chipping, approaches, putting, sand-shots, and driving.

For higher level of golf instructions, players are taught with methods that are more intricate like controlling the loft, trouble shots, and controlling the shape of the shot.

Indeed, there are no better ways to learn golf than through golf instructions. Everythings already included and taught in golf instructions.

Golf Carts, Not Just For the Golf Course Anymore!

by Chris Miller

Golf carts have a wide range of uses. Sure, the most obvious is for the golf course. But where else might you use a golf cart. Surprisingly almost anywhere short distances of travel are needed. Below, I'll talk about such instances where the use of a golf cart would be ideal.

On the golf course, golf carts are the primary means of transportation aside from walking. Golf carts are convenient and easy to use by everyone. The use of the golf cart makes traveling across the golf course quick and painless. Typically, most golf courses use electric powered golf carts as opposed to gas powered golf carts. Several factors influence this decision, but more than likely they choose electric due to its quiet use.

There are many large corporations that look to golf carts in order to help move people across large sites where businesses are located. For example, so much time can be saved by using a golf cart to travel across the worksite as opposed to walking by foot. If the need to go back and forth the workplace frequently, the amount of time saved by using the golf cart could be worth alot of money to the company compared to someone always walking.

Many security companies use golf carts to patrol the grounds of a company that they are securing. The golf cart makes it easy to cover alot of ground in a little time. The quietness of the electric golf cart also is a bonus in that it may be quiet enought to catch suspecting crooks off guard.

Golf carts have also been known to have a use on the home front, especially if you own alot of land. Sure, if you own a lot of land, you may have a tractor, or other large piece of machinery. Would anyone of them be as efficient as an electric golf cart? Chances are they are not, especially with the current gas prices.

As noted above, there are many uses for golf carts aside from the golf course. Whether you are at the golf course, workplace, or even the homefront, the golf cart could be of use to you.

As an author at eZ-search, Chris Miller contributes to the growing content found within the site and shares his knowledge about golf carts.

Hints About Golf Swing Aids

Don't grip the club too tightly. A tight grip inhibits a smooth swing and follow-though. Also, keep the grips on your clubs in good condition. Worn grips force you to hold the club too tightly. Replace the grips on your clubs as they get worn and smooth. When first learning the grip, keep a club around the house and practice gripping and regripping the club a few minutes each day. Remember to keep fingers secure and arms relaxed.

Each side of the trainer has surgical rubber bands that create counter pressure. There is also a video showing you what a proper swing looks like and how you should stand and hold the club. It contains 7 different exercises so that you will learn the correct movements. Experts recommend that you need to use the trainer 15 minutes each day for three weeks before you will notice an
improvement.

Golf Bags For Beginner Golfers

by Raymond McNally

You might be a golf beginner looking for your first set of golf clubs and equipment or a pro shopping for upgrades, but all will agree that golf bags are essential in the game. Next to golf clubs, a golf bag is one of the most important golfing equipment there is.

It is considered a necessity. A good golf bag will lessen your worries on the golf course, (i.e. all your clubs are in their proper place) and you can focus on your teeing.

If youre a beginner golfer, then golf bags are definitely a must. However, there are things that you should know before going to the nearest golf store and buying a golf bag on impulse. First, there are two types of golf bags? carry bags and cart bags.

Carry bags are golf bags that are used when you are planning to have a lot of walking on the golf course. Cart golf bags are those that you use when walking is not possible (as some golf courses prohibit walking), and riding a golf cart is your option. A beginner golfer will most definitely buy a walking bag at first, although if you are a serious beginner of the game, then you will eventually buy both types of golf bags.

If you are a newbie in the game, you might ask 'What is a golf bag for? I only have four golf clubs.' A golf bag is a functional equipment rather than a fashion statement. It is not just for your golf clubs, but it can also hold your other golf equipment and accessories. Some advanced golf bags even have pocket coolers that can keep your drink ice-cold even for hours! You might want to consider that, especially when you will buy a carry golf bag.

When buying a golf bag, especially a carry golf bag, find a comfortable one. One should check the straps to see if it fits comfortably and whether it can be carried easily. Remember that your golf bag will be one of your trusted companions on the greens, and that you will spend hours with it. So choose wisely. Dont buy low quality bags, because you will end up purchasing another bag in the next few months if your old golf bag tears up. You should also buy your golf bag depending on the number of golf clubs that you have. Most golf bags can carry up to 15 golf clubs. A tournament however limits the number of golf clubs in your golf bag.

Another important thing to consider when purchasing a golf bag is its weight. This is one of the most important things to know. golf bags should be light enough to be carried or carted easily, but sturdy enough to hold your clubs and protect them. Some golf bags are even water resistant, and are rain proofed for the protection of your clubs. Most of these golf bags have 8 or 9 dividers or pockets. Again, the number of dividers that you will need depend on the amount of clubs and accessories you will carry. If you have many golf clubs then choose a golf bag with many dividers. However, these types of golf bags have the tendency to be heavier. Some bags can weigh less than 5 pounds! These types of bags are made up of space-age materials such as graphite, however, they more expensive.

Remember that when buying golf bags, the lighter it is, the better and more comfortable it will be.

The Truth About Impact
Looking at the two pictures below, there's no doubting the differences between the proper address and impact positions. But while the correct impact position is obviously extremely important, it's impossible to isolate this one moment of the swing through manipulation. Instead, you have to understand and apply the proper mechanics to create the correct look and feel at impact. It's no coincidence that a proper-looking impact position tends to create solid shots.

Many players do not truly understand this term, and its meaning. Some think it is hitting down on the ball. Not So! Trying to get the ball airborne is the move that disturbs this clubhead path. The loft of the clubface is sufficient to lift the ball. Attempting to lift the ball tends to open the clubface which will slice the ball and lose distance as well.

Is Your Inner Mind Swing, destroying Your Outer Golf Swing?

By: Randy Friedman

What negative beliefs are you carrying around in your golf bag, that are destroying your golf game?

Ive worked with golfers of all abilities, from the first lesson of gripping the club and addressing the ball, to PGA Tour players needing to clear their mind and focus with clarity.

Even though golf is 90% mental, most golfers only practice the physical aspect of the game. One of the problems is that as Golf Professionals we are not taught to do psychoanalysis, or teach golfers how to think. This is one of the main reasons handicaps have not come down in years.

The outer conditions of a persons life will always be found to
reflect their inner beliefs ~ James Allen

You must change your thoughts to change your outcome! Yes, having properly fit equipment and getting great instruction is part of it. However, if you are still thinking thoughts of, I cant get better or I hate this hole or any negative thought in golf, your are holding on to self-limiting beliefs. It is virtually impossible to improve your outcome without improving your input.

So if it is said that golf is 90% mental, then why do most amateur golfers only want to hit balls to improve their game? Ill tell you why. They dont know how to do anything else. Many golf instructors and most books dont emphasize practicing mind power. The big picture is being lost in translation of the essence of the game. Golf is life!

Golf is not just about chasing a ball all over the course, it is profoundly much larger than that. Like life, golf has many games within the game. And like life, there are ups and downs to the game. The better you manage the downs, the better you will likely score. Mind power is about managing your emotions and staying in control of the situation. Developing the mental game is a huge and critical game within itself. Top athletes in the game know this, its time amateurs do too!

Thoughts and Emotions that will help you:

*
Let your current shot be your best shot. Appreciate the ability you currently have to play an amazing game, and allow your gratitude to flow.

*
I love these greens, they are perfect vs. I hate slow greens. Appreciate what is in the here and now.

*
Tell your partners know how much you appreciate playing with them. Your round will surely start and finish on a better note.

LOVE LIFE

*
Tell your husband or wife, mother or father, sister or brother, I love you when they least expect it.

*
Hold open a door, tell a stranger good day, and thank your postman for delivering your mail.

Get your morning GLO
Wake up saying, what a fantastic day to feel Gratitude, Love and Opportunity!

Today is your day to start appreciating your life. See what happens when you make gratitude a daily practice! Its the inner mind power you need to rise to the next level of your game.

Now youre ready to make that change in your golf game. If you tried everything to help your swing and improve your score, youve been missing the truth. You must change your inner mind thoughts and start doing what the Pros on Tour already know and do. Ready?

Golf Etiquette Tips For The Golf Beginner

By: George Gabriel

Ive played with a lot of golfers who truly take the game of golf seriously and a lot of golfers who dont. Its okay to have fun out there, keeping in mind respect for other players who do take it serious.

The tee box

Think of the tee box as a stage with a spotlight. Everybody gets his or her turn to shine. Try to remain quiet and out of the golfers view, including your shadow that may hinder the golfers concentration at address. The best position to stand when a player is addressing the golf ball would be to the other side, opposite of his golfers arm extension. You should be standing far enough back to see the club head and golf ball of the player addressing the ball. By taking this position, you would definitely be giving the player room to concentrate, unless he can see your shadow or hear the chatter of your clubs or talk. When you must stand behind or front of a golfer addressing his or her shot, take a second to ask if its okay and or are you far enough away. Act like a caddie when another player is playing a shot. Watch the golf ball finish rolling and mark the spot with a tree or bush. A lot of golfers do not like to watch their ball land, if its a bad shot. By doing this for your fellow golfer, it will help speed up play. Try to refrain from yelling nice shot or great shot, when youre around another tee box or green. When you must tell a joke, wait until its youre stage.

The green

Around the green can be a little more complex for the new golfer. Fix as many golf marks as you can, besides your own. A lot of golfers do not fix their ball marks on approaches to the green. Sometimes players get excited about their golf shot and forget. Ask other players to help, if there is more than a couple and your not holding up other players behind you.

There are typically four or three golf balls lying on the green. The key goal here is not to walk on anothers players line to the golf hole. When you find another player is further back from the hole, you should mark your ball. When approaching your golf ball, you have to be careful as to where you walk. Another players line to the hole should not have a big footprint to go over. Try stepping over the players line to the hole, or go around carefully watching for other players golf positions to the hole. When youre not sure, because of a marked ball. Ask your competitor where his ball is marked. When another golfer is about to putt, stay still until he or she takes their putting stroke, unless they give you the okay to walk. When you must walk to where you want to go. Do not stop, walk, stop, and walk again. It could be more distracting than a continuous walk.

The golfer closer to the hole should tend the pin. Ask your competitor if they need the stick tended. When tending the pin, be careful not to cast a shadow over the players line. Also keep the flag from waving in the wind by holding it against the flagstick. Position yourself with both feet together away from the hole. Bend the flagstick slightly if you have to keep your feet out of another players line. When the shot is taken, pull the pin so your competitor does not get penalized for hitting the flagstick. When its someone elses turn, ask if he or she needs the pin tended. When you think you may need it tended, ask someone to hold it for you.

The game of golf originated out of fun. There are those that take it quite seriously. Follow most of these tips, and it could be quite enjoyable, and you may not have a problem finding a foursome to tee it up with.

You can find tee times at www.golfanchor.net

Mathematically a longer arc should create more clubhead speed. Not so,unless done correctly. Overswinging will definitely throw the clubhead in a very poor planeswing. How far should you take the club back? Only as far as you can turn your shoulders-with balance. If the club goes back farther than the shoulders, the left wrist will break down. This will not only open or close the clubface but will take the pulling action away from the legs, thus allowing the shoulders or hands,or both to take over and dominate the forward swing. This type of motion puts the club in an outside-in plane (Over the top).

Balancing Your Checkbook And Golf Swing

By: Sean Cochran

We all search for it. Balance in our daily lives. Balance while riding a bike. Politicians are always debating a balanced budget in Washington, and most of us could use a little balance in our checkbooks. Balance is a term used in golf quite often as well. Its a buzzword and almost a clich when it comes to the golf swing. I am sure you have heard numerous times from swing coaches that you have to stay balanced when swinging your club. Others phrases that I hear when we talk about golf and balance are the following: When it comes to a sand shot, dig your feet into the stand so you can stay balanced, If the ball is on an uphill lie and above your feet, make sure you swing through the ball, and stayed balanced, and Stay balanced when hitting the driver and get to the finish position in perfect balance. The list could go on and on, and I am sure all of you could probably add to the short list above.

Two questions always arise in my mind when I hear the word balance in association with golf: 1) what does balance exactly mean, and 2) how do I create balance in my golf swing? I am guessing quite a few of you have these same questions, or similar ones, when you talk about the subject of balance in relation to the golf swing.

I am going to answer both of these questions. We will first define balance and its relation to the golf swing. Secondly, we will discuss how you develop the balance capacities of your body in relation to the golf swing. So without further ado lets get started.

What is Balance?

This is a really great question and the perfect way to begin. So lets hear it! What is the definition of balance? Think about it for a minute and then write down a couple of your answers. I understand that this is not the easiest question to answer (trust me, I have asked it plenty of times), and it is okay if you are not able to create a good working definition of balance (thats part of what we are going to do with this article). Okay, time is up, what did you write down?

Well, let me tell you some of the replies I have received for this question and we will take if from there. Here are just a few that I hear: head over your belly button between your feet, swinging a club on the correct path, knowing where your body is in space, and kinesthetic awareness. All of these answers are somewhat correct, but none of them gives us a good sound understanding of what balance really means.

The definition of balance is simply the ability to control your body during movement. Sounds pretty simple, does it not? It really is when you think about it, but lets break this definition down so we understand it completely. Starting with the first portion of the definition: the ability to control means what? Well, it is probably easiest to imagine what out of control looks like. Take the mental image of a racecar crashing into the wall. We could describe the car as out of control. Now take the flip side of this, and what would this car look like if it were in control? It would probably zoom around the track without hitting anything. The body is the same; if your body is out of control it will, in a sense, crash or fall over. If the body is in control, then it performs whatever movement you are asking of it without crashing. Take the example of a toddler running. Sometimes they get going so quickly that they get out of control and fall over. Other times they stay in control and are able to run.

Moving onto the second part of the definition: your body. Pretty easy concept to understand, dont you think? Your body includes your torso, head, arms, legs, and anything attached to the arms or legs, like a golf club. Up to this point we can put together the first two parts of the definition and summarize it as: the body (including your arms, legs, torso, head, and golf club) must be under control. Let us add the final part of the definition into the mix to complete our understanding.

The final piece of the definition is: during movement. This simply means anything your body is doing. It can be walking, running, throwing a baseball, or, in our world, swinging a golf club. Swinging a golf club is our movement when discussing this definition. We are now at the point to put the whole definition together. Let us use the example of a golf swing to create the connection we are looking for in terms of the definition.

Balance is the ability of your body (i.e. nerves, muscles, and skeleton) to swing a golf club effectively and efficiently on the correct path without changing the position of your body in such a way that it is detrimental to the swing and its outcome (i.e. contact with the ball). Pretty simple definition when you break it down, and from now on when your swing coach says, You have to stay balanced, you know what he is talking about.

Developing Balance in Our Golf Swing

Okay, we now know the definition of balance and its relationship to the golf swing. Now, for the second question of this article: how do we develop balance in relationship to our golf swing? This next section will answer this question for you. I would also bet that the answer is not as obvious as it appears.

I will first say that developing balance in your swing is a combination of a couple of factors. The first and probably most obvious factor is mechanics. The golf swing is a biomechanical movement that requires the body to take the club through a specified swing path in a certain sequence and timing. The body must learn the biomechanical movement of a golf swing to become efficient with the movement. As your body becomes aware of the movement, more efficient with the movement, and has a better feel for the movement, the concept of balance in your swing will improve. So the first part of developing balance in your swing is linked to the mechanics of the swing and becoming more efficient with these mechanics. This all funnels down to two things: 1) proper instruction about the swing, and 2) practice. Practice, practice, and more practice is necessary to create better balance in your swing.

The second factor has to do with a term that many of you have probably heard before. That term is muscle memory. Realize that within your body the skeleton is controlled by your muscles, muscles are controlled by nerves, and the nerves are told what to do by your brain. The messages sent to your muscles through your nerves by the brain create movement (i.e. muscles working to make the body move). These movements can either be efficient or inefficient. Inefficient movements by the muscular system tend to be sloppy and unrefined. Efficient movements are just the opposite. Efficient movements by your muscular system are refined and technical. Improvement in balance is a result of the latter (i.e. efficient muscular movement). Efficient muscular movement is developed through training the muscles and nerves of your body to become more efficient. This is not done through typical exercises like bench press or leg press, but through stabilization and balance exercises.

As golfers we have our priorities. Lets get some balance in our golf swing by training our bodies, getting proper instruction, and certainly a lot of practice. Once weve got balance there, then well start talking about balancing our checkbook or helping Washington balance the federal budget.

Hints About Golf Clubs

The driver is now a specialty club, much like a putter. Our set-up, ball position everything is different from any other club in the bag. You shouldn't be hitting the ball at the bottom or apex of the golf swing like a fairway wood. The ball should be struck past this point, on the upswing. This will lead to a higher launch angle and lower spin rate which is how we are going to hit the ball farther than we ever have before.
